Location / About Cooktown



Cooktown is the major township of the Cook Shire which is the largest land area shire in Queensland, encompassing 115,000km². Cook Shire occupies approx 80% of the Cape York Peninsula Region of Far North Queensland.
The area boasts an extremely diverse environment, encompassing freehold lands and various types of lease hold lands, World Heritage areas, including Wet Tropics and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, National Parks, protected areas, and other types of conservation zones. Significant industries in the area include cattle, tourism, mining, fishing and horticulture.
The area has a deep place in Australian history as Captain James Cook founded the area in 1770.
The Cedars is located approx 45 kilomotres north west of Cooktown and is accessed by a sealed in land road form the township.
The area is approx 3.5 hours north of Cairns where daily national and interstate aire services are conducted. The area has a tropical climate with an average year round temperature of 27 degrees.
